Hunting Bios

Mike Tusow

Mike is a life long hunter who grew up in Southern Oregon. He joined the Navy in 1969 and retired in 1999, after 30 years of service. He has hunted deer, elk, geese, doves and pheasants with his father who taught him the ethics, marksmanship and techniques required to be a successful hunter. He hunts with modern rifle, muzzle loader, shotgun and archery but being a left handed shooter getting quality equipment is sometimes a challenge but he sees it as just another chance to excel.

He and the other members of the Snake River Hunting Club, practice all year long to become proficient and learn the capabilities of their weapons and their own skill levels. They practice ethical hunting and by becoming familiar with their abilities and weapons they are able to make sound decisions in the field.

Steve Turner

Steve was born in Billings Montana and at an early age moved to Kelso Washington. He grew up fishing for salmon and steelhead on the Cowlitz River. When Steve was 8 years old his Dad signed him up for a hunter safety class and helped him buy his first gun, a single shot bolt action 410 gauge shotgun. This was the start of a life long passion for Steve. In 1969 he moved to North Carolina where Weyerhaeuser transferred his Dad. In North Carolina he learned to hunt “Southern Style”. Steve hunted everything from deer to squirrels at every opportunity. During this time Steve ran a trap line to make money for college.

In 1976 he joined the US NAVY where he met fellow members of the Snake River Hunting club; Don Davis, Mike Tusow and John Keizer. Steve retired from the Navy after 26 years and now works at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Steve learned at an early age that firearms safety starts with the individual and hunting is about ethics, safety and enjoying the outdoors and sharing that experience with good friends.

A life long desire to be in the gunsmithing trade, Don has been gunsmithing for 15 years and plans to continue the trade into retirement. He likes to make a habit of going to the range routinely to stay on top of shooting skills and likes to practice long range shooting out to 600 yards.
