I have been looking for a small boat to leave at the Pt Defiance Boathouse in Tacoma that is under 16ft. I recently picked up an older Glasply 15ft. Moocher that had a couple of engines on it a 50HP for running and an 8HP for trolling. I sold both engines and went to Dave Johnson at Kitsap Marina in Port Orchard to repower my new boat.
Yes, being on the Evinrude Pro-Staff it was going to be my choice of engine, why not and after the great performance I get on my Evinrude 200 G-2s on my North River moored in Westport. He recommended an Evinrude 50HP tiller. This has been a great choice with lots of power and a top end speed to 35MPH but can troll down to 1.5 MPH all day long. Plus no maintenance for 3 years and the lowest emissions on the market, no eating blue smoke all day why trolling. It is fuel injected for quick starts no warm up needed.
I only run one AGM battery on the moocher now that supplies two Scotty downriggers, Lowrance Sonar/GPS, running lights and a bilge pump without running down the battery as this Evinrude will alternator will generate 81AMPS from its charging system.
The 50 tiller has an RPM switch built into the tiller handle that allows you to find just the right trolling speed.
With the kings just now arriving into Area 11 I’m ready to hit the local waters.
